3 & 4 Year Old Funding
Universal Funding (15 hours)

The government funds ALL three and four year old children to attend for up to 15 hours per week, starting the term after they turn 3:

  • Childs Birthday between: 1 January to 31 March - Funding from 1st April (Summer Term)
  • Childs Birthday between: 1 April to 31 August - Funding from 1st September (Autumn Term)
  • Childs Birthday between: 1 September to 31 December - Funding from 1st January (Spring Term)

We arrange this funding on behalf of families, parents and carers will just need to complete a parent declaration form which we provide.

Extended Funding (30 hours)

Working parents of 3 and 4 year olds may be entitled to up to 30 hours of free childcare. This is an additional 15 hours of free childcare on top of the 15 hours universal entitlement (see above).

Who is eligible for extended funding?

Woking families where each parent (or one parent for single parent households) earns at least £152 a week – but less than £100,000 a year.

You can still apply for 30 hours free childcare if you’re:

  • on paid sick leave
  • on paid ordinary or additional maternity, paternity or adoption leave, or getting Maternity Allowance, for another child
  • on paid shared parental leave
  • on paid annual leave

If you are not currently working you may still be eligible if your partner is working, and you get Incapacity Benefit, Severe Disablement Allowance, Carer’s Allowance or contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance.  You can also apply if you’re starting or re-starting work within the next 31 days.

Your immigration status:

To be eligible for 30 hours free childcare, you (or your partner if you have one) must have a National Insurance number and at least one of the following:

  • British or Irish citizenship
  • Settled or pre-settled status, or you have applied and you’re waiting for a decision
  • Permission to access public funds - your UK residence card will tell you if you cannot do this

Parents and carer must apply for this funding via the government website (childcare choices).  If eligible you will receive a 10 digit code (usually beginning 501) which enables us to claim the funding for your child's place.  Parents must do this before the beginning of the term you would like to claim from.  If you do not get your code before this date, you will need to wait until the next term before you can apply again.  Once you have your code you must re-confirm it every 3 months to maintain your eligibility.

Our business manager Emma is happy to help with any funding questions or queries! Send her an email to mgpreschool@live.co.uk.

Using funding at pre-school:

We aim to offer parents with flexible, affordable early years education.  Funding can therefore be used on any of our 3 hours sessions (see our opening times) and in combinations that suit families individual needs.  Children can attend morning (9-12), afternoon (12.30-3.30) or all day sessions (9-3.30).  Any hours attended additional to funded hours will be charged. Please see our fees page for further details.   All spaces are subject availability.

Tax Free Childcare

Tax-Free Childcare is a new scheme which gives eligible families up to £2,000 free per child towards childcare costs.  You may be able to open a new online childcare account via www.childcarechoices.gov.uk which for every £8 you pay into, the government will pay in an extra £2 (up to £2,000), so it effectively gives you basic-rate tax back on what you pay, hence the scheme’s name.

Who is entitled to the tax-free childcare scheme?

To qualify, parents must be working and each earning at least £120 a week. Tax-free childcare can't be used at the same time as childcare vouchers, Universal Credit or tax credits. However, 30 hours free childcare can be received alongside this. You're usually eligible if your child is under 12 (17 if disabled) and all of the following apply to you (and/or partner):

  • are 16 or over
  • are over 21 and earn on average at least £120 a week, unless in your first year of self-employment
  • earn less than £100,000 a year each
  • don't get other support with your childcare, including from a childcare voucher or salary sacrifice scheme

You can apply for tax-free childcare here. You will need to provide your email address and your child’s date of birth.

How to use tax-free childcare to pay for your fees:
  • Once you have set up your account you will receive an account reference number of 4 letters and 5 numbers, followed by 'TFC'. The letters are made up of the first initial and the first 3 letters of the surname of your child. For example, WSTR12345TF
  • You should then be able to select preschool as your chosen childcare setting by searching with our name, address and postcode.
  • You can then credit your account with your payment towards your invoice, you must authorise the payment to be transferred once the tax relief has been applied
